24 Honorary Wing Project

September 6, 2025

The concept of an honorary wing was originally raised as one of the RCAF 2024 Centennial initiatives – with the objective being to create a manner by which to more formally recognize, and partner with, organizations that have an interest in commemorating RCAF aviation and space history, and inspiring those contributing to the RCAF’s future – through volunteer work, event planning, innovations in Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) related aerospace programs. Unfortunately, the 24 Honorary Wing concept initiative did not come to fruition as part of the 2024 RCAF Centennial program. However, the Royal Canadian Air Force Association (RCAFA), with the consent of the RCAF Commander (3 July 2025) has been authorized to use this Air Force concept and further develop this unique membership concept on behalf of the RCAF.

The intent is now to have the RCAFA, as the lead organizer, recruit like-minded organizations and individuals to join in a partnership / association to form a collective of “honorary wings”, to be known as 24 Honorary Wing (in recognition of the year 1924 as the birth year of the Royal Canadian Air Force. MGen (Retired) Colin Keiver, has taken the lead on this important RCAF Association project and has recently conveyed the inaugural membership into the 24 Honorary Wing program.

On Saturday, 13 September 2025, Vintage Wings of Gatineau Quebec, along with its founder, Mike Potter, was officially brought on board as the first member of the 24 Honorary Wing program.
