GORDON BATES LAC(P) R148397 - under training. From Schenectady, New York, U.S.A. Killed Jan 21/43 age 27. #16 Service Flying Training School, Hagersville, Ontario. LAC Taylor was engaged in night circuits and landings when Anson aircraft #7342 went out of control in a snow storm. He was killed when the aircraft crashed one mile south-west of the aerodrome at Hagersville. Leading AirCraftman Pilot Taylor is buried Vale Cemetery, Schenectady, New York, U.S.A.

F/O Taylor was killed when his Spitfire aircraft developed engine troubel while on a reconnaissance operation in the MonchenGladbach area of Germany. Hampden aircraft #AD 726 was shot down in the sea off De Haan, Belgium during bombing operations. Three of the crew, not Canadians, missing believed killed. Sergeant Observer Taylor was buried at De Haan, exhumed, and reburied in the Canadian War Cemetery, Adegem, East Flanders, Belgium.

Hudson aircraft #761 crashed and burned shortly after take-off from Torbay. Crewmen FSs Taylor, W.F. Colville and passengers F/Ls J.H. LeBlanc, R.I. Ehrlichman, Sgt M.H. Brothers, LACs N.C. Fleischman, S.E. Crymes and Cpl. C.F. Else also killed. FS Taylor had previously been in two aircraft accidents, the first on October 3, 1941 when a #11 BR Squadron Hudson caught fire and blew up on take-off at Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and the second on January 27, 1942 when a #11 BR Squadron Hudson ran out of fuel, returning from a patrol, and made a forced landing near Botwood, Newfoundland. The crew of Dakota aircraft #JM 924 were dropping supplies for the British 14th Army when they were shot down by an enemy fighter aircraft twenty-five miles north-east of Tiddem, Burma. P/Os C.K.
