Red Canoe National Heritage Brands

In 1999 Red Canoe was conceived in a bush plane over the pristine wilderness of Northern Ontario.

The imagery, romance and heritage of the unique lifestyle this form of travel represents are hard to express. Those that live it carry forward a tradition of the Canadian pioneers who pushed the limits of possibility in the face of all the adversity our rugged landscape could muster.

Our Love Story….

We married the same year that Labusch Skywear Inc. was established, so we say that it’s part of our love story.  Ralph always had a passion and love of aircraft and space so when he said that he wanted to start to “draw airplanes on t-shirts”, it seemed like a perfect fit.

We started with one design. I remember it as clear as day, it was the Avro Lancaster.  It was created in our very first office, our dining room.  And our garage soon became our warehouse.  Our first order came from the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum in Hamilton.  Soon after we ventured out on a weekend trip to Ottawa and received our second order from Canada Science & Technology Museum.  We were absolutely elated.

As our passion grew so did our design catalog and more museums were added into our portfolio.  They would call us, asking us if we would sell our items to their museums.  We started creating custom work for museums worldwide.   That was our goal from the start and it was happening!

Our small warehouse was busting at the seams with our new aircraft design t-shirts along with other new products such as mousepads and coffee mugs. We knew that we needed a bigger space as our products were becoming more and more popular with museums in Canada, the United States and Internationally. We then moved again to our current location in Kitchener, Ontario. Canada.

With each year that has passed since 1992, we have to say that our love for one another and our company has become stronger.  We would never change a single thing.  We can honestly say that it’s been a fun ride working together as husband and wife and business partners for all these years, and we look forward to the many years to come. I am so very proud of Ralph and his strong talented determination.

Many thanks go out to all our museums, friends and most importantly to our employees that we have and had throughout the years. Without you we wouldn’t be where we are today.  We are so blessed.
