FS Cabeldu was killed when the engine of his Hurricane aircraft failed and he crashed near Gabbai, at Rosint, Gabbai, Freetown. CABUSH, GORDON HAROLD LAC(P) R121935 – under training. From Edmonton, Alberta. Killed Jul 24/42 age 21. #10 Service Flying Training School, Dauphin, Manitoba. LAC Cabush and P/O J.S. Bladon were both killed flying Cessna Crane #8008 aircraft in bad weather. The aircraft dove into the ground and burned two and one half miles west of Dauphin. Leading AirCraftman Pilot Cabush is buried in the Beechmount Cemetery, Edmonton, Alberta.

Flight Lieutenant Bomb Aimer Calhoun has no known grave, his name is inscribed on the Runnymede War Memorial, Englefield Green, Egham, Surrey, England. Addendum: – Distinguished Flying Cross – No.405 Squadron (deceased) – Award effective 16 August 1944 as per London Gazette dated 25 January 1946 and AFRO 244/46 dated 8 March 1946. Born 1923 in St.Lambert, Quebec; home there (student in accountancy at McGill); enlisted Montreal 12 May 1942. Trained at No.3 ITS (graduated 24 October 1942), No.4 BGS (graduated 9 January 1943), and No.9 AOS (graduated 6 March 1943). Commissioned February 1943. Killed in action 16/17 August 1944 (Lancaster P239). Body not found; name on Runnymede Memorial. Award presented to next-of-kin, 9 December 1947. Halifax aircraft #MZ 562 lost during night operations against Hasselt, Belgium. P/O G.A. Lewis, F/O R.W. 011ett, FS A. Norton (RAF), Sgt J. Thomson (RAF), and F/L R.D. Wibberley (RAF) were also killed. One of the crew, not Canadian, missing believed killed. Pilot Officer Navigator Christie is buried in the War Cemetery, Heverlee, Brabant, Belgium.

CHRISTIE, RICHARD MORLEY F/O(P) J10140. From Cardston, Alberta. Killed in Action Jul 30/43 age 22. #226 Squadron (Non Sibi Sed Patriae). The crew of Mitchell aircraft #FV 932 was detailed for a sea search and was forced down in the North Sea north of the Frisian Islands. F/O Christie ditched the aircraft successfully allowing the other three members of the crew to get out and get into a dinghy. He didn’t make it out of the aircraft. Flying Officer Pilot Christie has no known grave, his name is inscribed on the Runnymede War Memorial, Englefield Green, Egham, Surrey, England.

CHRISTIE, ROBERT FOSTER P/O(AG) J88365//R190930. From Matachewan, Ontario. Killed in Action May 25/44 age 21. #429 Bison Squadron (Fortunae Nihil). Halifax aircraft #LW 124 missing during night operations against Aachen, Germany. P/Os W.M. Stewart, D.L. Fernandez, and P/O K.H. Jackson (RAF) were also killed. Two Canadians, F/O R.B. Rudd and WO L.M. Shelter were taken Prisoners of War. One of the crew, not Canadian, missing believed killed. Pilot Officer Air Gunner Christie is buried in the Canadian War Cemetery, Bergen-Op-Zoom, Holland.

CHRISTIE, ROBERT GUNN F/O(N) J18884//R133381 D.F.M. From Okanagan Falls, British Columbia. Killed in Action Sep 23/43 age 22. #97 Squadron (Achieve Your Aim), Pathfinder Force. Target – Mannheim, Germany. F/O Christie completed over thirty trips and had begun his second tour of operations when his Lancaster #ED 868 aircraft went down. Six of the crew, not Canadians, missing believed killed. Flying Officer Navigator Christie is buried in the War Cemetery at Rheinberg, Germany.  Addendum: – Distinguished Flying Medal – No.97 Squadron (deceased) – Award effective 22 September 1943 as per London Gazette dated 10 April 1945 and AFRO 802/45 dated 11 May 1945. Born 1914 in River Hebert, Nova Scotia; home in Regina or Edmonton (farmer); enlisted Vancouver, 8 October 1941. Trained at No.4 ITS (graduated 27 March 1942) and No.3 AOS (graduated 31 July 1942). Commissioned 1943. Killed in action 23/24 September 1943 (Lancaster EOM). Award presented to next- of-kin, 10 December 1947. The citation reads – “This airman has taken part in a large number of operational missions against the enemy in the course of which he has invariably displayed the utmost courage, fortitude and devotion to duty.” Detail provided by H.
