The crew of Wellington aircraft #HE 415 were engaged on a thirty mile cross-country night training flight when they crashed in the sea off Lossiemouth, Scotland. F/O R. Greavison, Sgt H.P. Veregin, P/Os F.L. Maw, and S.L. Braaten were also killed. One of the crew, not Canadian, missing believed killed. Spitfire aircraft #BR 131 went missing during a sweep off Cape Scalamri. WO Yaholnitsky reported he was bailing out at 800 feet; a search of the area was undertaken with no results. Warrant Officer Class II Pilot Yaholnitsky is buried in the Protestant Section of the Naval Cemetery, Malta.

YARINGTON, ALVIN EDWARD P/O(AG) J90047//R197267. From Brantford, Ontario. Killed in Action May 13/44 age 20. #431 Iroquois Squadron (The Hatiten Ronteriios). Target – Louvain, Belgium. Please see Laturnus A. for casualty list and flight detail. P/O Yarington joined the RCAF groundcrew but broke his back in an accident. Months later he applied for aircrew, became an air gunner and was posted overseas. An air gunner had a problem with his appendix so P/O Yarington took his place and was killed during the flight. Pilot Officer Air Gunner Yarington is buried in the Brussels Town Cemetery, Evere-lesBruxelles, Belgium.

The pilot of Halifax aircraft #HX 346 made a forced landing, in poor visibility, at Thelon, near the aerodrome at Leeming, Yorkshire. F/O Yarush was the only casualty. Sgt Young was engaged in night flying practise and was killed shortly after take-off when Harvard aircraft #2520 crashed and burst into flames one mile north-west of Mountain View, Ontario. Sergeant Pilot Young is buried in the Edmonton Cemetery at Edmonton, Alberta.

P/O Young was on an armed reconnaissance over Caen, France on August 13, 1944 when he reported that his Spitfire aircraft #MK 576 had been hit by flak. He was seen to bail out safely two miles south-west of Vassey, France. At 5pm on August 25, 1944 a German Storm Trooper drove into the small prison yard at Les Hagues, France and shot five of the prisoners. He had demanded to have his truck repaired but no one understood him, P/O Young was one of the five. Pilot Officer Pilot Young is buried in the Communal Cemetery at Les Hogues, Eure, France.
