The aircraft overshot the landing, hit some trees then crashed and disintegrated one mile north-east of Holywell Row Village, near the aerodrome at Mildenhall. KRAUSE, JOSEPH ANTHONY WO2(N) R59132. From Winnipeg, Manitoba. Killed in Action Aug 25/42 age 21. #7 Squadron (Per Diem Per Noctum). Stirling aircraft went down over France during night operations. One Canadian, Sgt Smith was either an Evader or was taken Prisoner of War. Two RAF members of the crew, P/Os W.E. Pickup and C. Warner were also killed. Three other RAF members of the crew missing believed killed. On June 21, 1941, WO Krause had made a forced landing in his #15 O.T.U. aircraft off Audglas, Spain. He was interned in Spain for nearly a year and then returned to Gibraltar on April 11, 1942. Stirling aircraft #P 9261 was shot down by two German ME-109 fighter aircraft during a bombing operation against Stettin, Germany. The Stirling crashed at Kongsmark, Denmark. S/L W.A. Blake, WO J.S. Marshall, P/O E. Vance, and three RAF crew members, Sgts D.C. Farley, J. Lees, and F/L C.W. Parish were also killed. One Canadian, Sgt Don V. Pilot Officer Pilot Kyle has no known grave, his name is inscribed on the Singapore War Memorial, Malaya.

De Lisser (RAF) and one other RAF member of the crew were also killed. Flight Sergeant Pilot Kyle is buried in the New Cemetery at Sutton Goldfield, Warwickshire, England.
