The Citation for his D.F.C. reads, “This officer has acquired a reputation for a very high standard of photography, while his infectious enthusiasm and energy have made him a most valuable member of the squadron. He was on his 42nd operational flight when his ship failed to return. He stuck to his ship to the last to enable his crew to bail out to safety.” F/L Cobb had completed one tour and had begun his second tour of operations when his Halifax aircraft #HR 850 was shot down at Ulpenich, Germany. Two Canadians, P/O C.H. Bullock and FS W.P. Trask were taken Prisoners of War. Flight Lieutenant Pilot Cobb was buried in the Parish Cemetery at Ulpenich, exhumed, and reburied in the War Cemetery at Rheinberg, Germany.
