TABOR, WALTER THOMAS FS(AG) R51583. From Fort William, Ontario. Killed in Action Sep 4/42 age 25. #144 Squadron (Who Shall Stop Us). Hampden aircraft was on special detachment when it went down in the sea near Kela Inlet, enemy action. Flight Sergeant Air Gunner Tabor has no known grave, his name is inscribed on the Runnymede War Memorial, Englefield Green, Egham, Surrey, England. Addendum: – Flight Sergeant Tabor was killed by enemy fighter aircraft fire. Hampden aircraft # 356 was forced to ditch near shore and was again straffed by the fighter. The others of the crew, all RCAF, escaped safely. Flight Sergeant Air Gunner Tabor was given a proper military service and burial led by R.A.F. Squadron Leader Foster (144 Sqdn.) and is buried part way up a hill which overlooks Severmorosk in the Vaenga Cemetery, Russia. TAERUM, TORGER HARLO F/L(N) J16688 D.F.C. From Calgary, Alberta. Killed in Action Sep 16/43 age 22. #617 Dambuster Squadron (Apres Moi Le Deluge). BROTHER to Lorne Clifford Taerum. Lancaster aircraft #EE 144 was shot down and crashed at Nordhoom, Holland and a 12,000 pound bomb the aircraft was carrying, blew up. F/O Deering D.F.C. and five of the crew, not Canadians, were also killed. F/L Taerum and F/O Deering were awarded the D.F.C. for their part in the Darnbuster Raid; they were both in the lead aircraft flown by RAF WIC. G. Gibson V.C. Flight Lieutenant Navigator Taerum is buried in the Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Kleve, Germany.

TAFLER, SYDNEY ALEXANDER F/O(N) J40794. From Montreal, Quebec. Killed in Action Feb 21/45 age 28. #166 Squadron (Tenacity). Lancaster aircraft #NG 183 was shot down in flames near the Hansa coal mine, Huckarde, Germany during a night attack against Dortmund, Germany. F/L D.W. Hill, FSs H.A. Neal, R.E. Kearney, W.J. Doherty, and two crew members, not Canadians, were also killed. Flying Officer Navigator Tafler was buried in the Central Cemetery, Westpund, Germany, exhumed, and reburied in the Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Kleve, Germany.

Beaufighter aircraft #JL 502 collided with Hampden aircraft #AE 132 and crashed in the sea seven miles north-west of Fraserburgh. P/O Taggart was the pilot of the Beaufighter and his navigator, not Canadian, was missing believed killed. Halifax aircraft #LW ,672 was shot down near Cologne, Germany during a night operation against Wesseling, Germany. P/Os W.W. Watson, N.A. Boucher, J.Z. Giroux, J.T. Dufour, FS W.A. Cameron, and Sgt R.P. Kinnear (RAF) were also killed. One Canadian, Sgt J.C. Arsenault was taken Prisoner of War. Pilot Officer Pilot TailIon was buried in the British War Cemetery at Cologne, exhumed, and reburied in the War Cemetery at Rheinberg, Germany.

TAILLON, JOSEPH ALPHONSE GASTON SGT(AG) R55608. From Quebec City, Quebec. Killed in Action Feb 20/44 age 23. #427 Lion Squadron (Ferte Manus Certas). Halifax aircraft #LV 829 was shot down at Ghode, Germany during a night trip to Leipzig, Germany. F/O D.O. Olsvik, P/Os J.P. McKenzie, R.L. Warren, D.H. Jonasson, WO W.R. Tobin, FS J.G. Burke, and Sgt J.P. Richard were also killed. This was an eight man crew as there was an extra pilot on board for training purposes. Sergeant Air Gunner Tailion is buried in the Berlin War Cemetery, Charlotteriburg, Germany.

TAIT, HUGH MATHESON FS(N) R156125. From Toronto, Ontario. Killed Dec 16/43 age 24. #1667 Conversion Unit. The crew of Halifax aircraft #EB 185 were returning from a cross-country exercise in poor weather and crashed just outside the outer circle at the down wind end of the runway at RAF Station, Faldingworth, Lincolnshire, England. F/O A.R. Cameron and five of the crew, not Canadians, were also killed. Flight Sergeant Navigator Tait is buried in the City Cemetery, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.

Lancaster aircraft #NG 287 missing whilst on a trip to Misburg, Germany. Sgts H.J. Brownett (RAF), W. Field (RAF), F/Os R.W. Stephens (RAF), and R.F. Wallace (RNZAF) were also killed. Hiles (RAF) were both killed when Harvard aircraft #3020 crashed two miles west of Chrysler, Ontario. Leading AirCraftman Pilot Tait is buried in the Belside Cemetery, Fergus, Ontario.

Stirling aircraft #LJ 988 did not return from a re-supply operation over Holland. WO E.W. Bancroft was also killed. Six of the crew, not Canadians, missing presumed killed. TAKVOR, JACK P/O(P) J16678//R95033. From Winnipeg, Manitoba. Killed in Action Dec 19/42 age 20. #260 Squadron (Geier Et Fortis). The Squadron of Kittyhawk aircraft was being led by Canadian S/L J. (Stocky) Edwards strafing enemy ground transport when P/O Takvor’s aircraft was hit by flak. He bailed out at 100 feet and landed in the water about a half mile off shore; his comrades saw him get into his dinghy but he was behind enemy lines and was never seen again. Pilot Officer Pilot Takvor has no known grave, his name is inscribed on the Alamein War Memorial, Egypt.

TALBOT, JOHN RODGER SGT(P) R60960. From Edmonton, Alberta. Killed Sep 14/41. #2 Operational Training Unit. Sgt Talbot was engaged in a practice flight in Blenheim aircraft #V 5789 when he crashed at Catfoss, England. Sgt J.B. Spero was also killed. TAMBLIN, ALBERT R.O. From Port Arthur, Ontario. Killed Aug 14/41 age 24. Royal Air Force Ferry Command. Hudson aircraft lost. Please see Duncan R.A. for casualty list. Radio Officer Tamblin is buried in the Ayr Cemetery, Ayrshire County, Scotland.

TAMBLYN, HUGH NORMAN DONALD F/L(P) 40862 D.F.C. – Royal Air Force. From Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Killed in Action Apr 3/41 age 23. #242 Squadron (Toujours Pret). F/L Tamblyn flew from West Mailing, England with #141 Squadron and on July 12, 1940 nine Defiant aircraft, of #141 Sqdn., flew a patrol twenty miles from Folkestone, England. During the patrol they were attacked by German ME-109 fighter aircraft, F/O Tamblyn was one of two pilots to regain their base. His air gunner claimed a 109 destroyed. On August 8, 1940 F/O Tamblyn was posted to #242 Squadron at Coltishall, England. He claimed a 109 destroyed on September 7, two more on the 9th, a shared Dornier (DO- 17) on the 15th, and another DO-17 on the 18th. He was awarded his D.F.C. on January 7, 1941. F/L Tamblyn was shot down into the sea by return fire from a DO-17 whilst on convoy duty east of Felixtowe, England. He radioed that his Hurricane aircraft was on fire. A search found his body unwounded; he died of exposure. F/L Tambyln was an ace credited with destroying six enemy aircraft. Flight Lieutenant Pilot Tamblyn is buried in the Ipswich Cemetery, England.

TAME, LESLIE JOHN FS R166793. From Vancouver, British Columbia. Killed Jan 21/45 age 35. #15 Service Flying Training School, Claresholm, Alberta. FS Tame was a Lynk Trainer Instructor and was killed when Anson aircraft #8627, engaged in a low level navigation exercise, collided with a ferry cable which was suspended 25 feet above the ice. The aircraft crashed onto the river ice ten miles south of Bassano, Alberta also killing two RAF airmen, Sgt K.L. Sutton and LAC I.R. Vidler. Flight Sergeant Tame is buried in the Mountain View Cemetery at Vancouver, British Columbia.

TANDY, FREDERICK ARTHUR ERNEST P/O(P) J19727. From North Bay, Ontario. Killed in Action Jun 13/44 age 27. #434 Bluenose Squadron (In Excelsis Vincimus). Target – Arras, France. Pilot Officer Pilot Tape was buried at Souk El Arba, exhumed, and reburied in the Medjez-El-Bab War Cemetery, Tunisia, North Africa.

Gill, one RNZAF, and two RAF members of the crew were also killed. Halifax aircraft #LW 202 was shot down by a German night fighter aircraft during a night raid against Hamburg, Germany. F/Os C.W. Hostetler, R.W. Cuff, and P/O C.G. Merritt were also killed. TARRANT, MERVIN ELWOOD WO2(WAG) R97649. From New Westminster, British Columbia. Killed in Action Mar 23/43 age 23. #113 Bomber Reconnaissance Squadron, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Hudson aircraft #BW 620 was taking off to go on an operational patrol when it crashed and caught fire at the aerodrome at Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. F/O C.L. Tripp, WO R.F. Cavers, FS A.J. Baillie, and two of the five ground crew that tried to rescue the aircrew, LAC L.E. Briggs and AC F. Halleek were all killed when the aircraft exploded. Warrant Officer Class II Wireless Operator Air Gunner Tarrant is buried in the Fraser Cemetery at New Westminster, British Columbia.

TARRISON, MAXWELL HARRY F/O(OB) J11225. From Stratford, Ontario. Killed in Action Jul 15/43. #458 Australia Squadron. Wellington aircraft #MP 631 lost north-east of Sardinia during operations. Wellington aircraft #MP 622 and a Halifax aircraft collided in mid-air and crashed two miles south-east of New Milton, Hampshire, England. F/Ls B.W. Pritchard, A.G. Tatton, F/O N. Tuchtie, WOs T. Bolingbroke aircraft #10111 was returning from a gunnery exercise and was flying at 800 feet when it suddenly dove straight into the ground near the aerodrome at Mossbank. P/O V.H. Ex P/O Cohn Pattie (RNZAF), now of Victoria, British Columbia had this to say, “I was alone in the control tower when a Bolingbroke came spinning down out of the overcast and crashed a mile from the aerodrome.” Leading AirCraftman Air Gunner Tierney is buried in the Ocean View Burial Park, Burnaby, British Columbia.

TINGLE, CYRIL NISBET JR. S/L C21092 – administration. From Chilliwack, British Columbia. Died Nov 27/44 age 35. BROTHER to Aubrey Maxwell Tingle and Leicester James Tingle. Died in #101 British General Hospital of injuries received when the car in which he was a passenger crashed into the rear end of a parked Lorry. The driver of the car was blinded by oncoming headlights and couldn’t see the Lorry. The accident took place on the Brussels, Belgium to Louvain road. Squadron Leader Tingle was buried in the British Military Cemetery on the Grounds of the Sisters of Annunciation Convent at Heverlee, exhumed, and reburied in the War Cemetery, Heverlee, Brabant, Belgium.
