Earle lost his life when his Typhoon aircraft# JR 188 went down during a low level attack against enemy shipping twenty miles off the Dutch Frisian Islands. EARLE, JOHN WAL TEA BENSON F/O(P) C24449. From Westmount, Quebec. Killed In Action Aug.5/44 age 22. #403 Wolf Squadron (Stalk And Strike). F/O. Earle as flying Spitfire aircraft# MJ 784 and was killed while attacking enemy transport at Annebault, France. The Spitfire either crashed into the transport or exploded in the air. Flying Officer Pilot Earle was buried on the outskirts of Dozule, France, exhumed, and reburied in the Bretteville-Sur-Laize Canadian War Cemetery, France.

EARLE, ROBERT NEVILL F/L(P) J15962//R92036. From Oliver, British Columbia. Killed In Action Dec.31/44 age 24. #412 Falcon Squadron (Promtus Ad Vindictum). F/L. Earle was attacking ground targets when his Spitfire aircraft # PT 964 was hit by flak. The aircraft then hit the ground and exploded three miles north-west of Haus, Germany. Flight Lieutenant Pilot Earle was buried in the Jacob Cemetery, Coesfeld, Germany, exhumed, and reburied in the Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Kleve, Germany.

EARLS, JOHN JAMES F/O(P) J11958. From Ottawa, Ontario. Killed Dec.2/42 age 21. #5 Operational Training Unit. The crew of a Beaufighter aircraft were on a navigation exercise over the sea and the last fix gave their position as over the Passage of Oronsay, Scotland. F/O. J. Ash and two other airmen, not Canadians, were also killed. F/O. Earls had been slightly injured on November 8, 1942 when his Beaufort aircraft stalled before landing and swung off the runway at Turnberry, England. EARNSHAW, KENNETH F/O(N) J10891. From Bashaw, Alberta. Killed In Action May.17/43 age 21. #617 Dambuster Squadron (Apres Moi Le Deluge). Target – the Moehne Dam, Germany. Lancaster aircraft # ED 925 was hit by flak on the approach to the dam and caught fire. The bomb was dropped in an attempt to gain height but the aircraft crashed into a mountain. Five RAF members of the crew were also killed. P/O. Burcher D.F.M. (RAF) bailed out at near zero feet altitude and was taken Prisoner Of War. One Canadian, P/O. J. EASEN, RICHARD FREDERICK P/O(BA) J92606//R153506. From Keene, Ontario. Killed In Action May.1/44 age 20. #514 Squadron (Nil Obstare Potest). Lancaster aircraft # LL 691 ditched in the Sea of Dover, one half mile off New Hawkinge, England. Six of the crew and one passenger, not Canadians, were also killed. The Navy and Air-Sea Rescue searched the area and found only an empty dinghy. Pilot Officer Bomb Aimer Easen has no known grave, his name is inscribed on the Runnymede War Memorial, Englefield Green, Egham, Surrey, England.

Halifax aircraft # NA 560 lost during a daylight operation, a raid against Les Landesvielles Et Neuves, France. P/O. R.M. Cass (RAF), Sgt.s M. Evans (RAF), F.C. Saunders (RAF), and FS. H. Tonge (RAF) were also killed. These five airmen were buried in the same collective grave. Two others of the crew, not Canadians, missing believed killed. EASTMAN, DONALD MERVYN F/O(P) J42135. From Ottawa, Ontario. Killed Jun.9/45 age 23. #83 G. Support Unit. F/O. Eastman was killed when his Spitfire aircraft # RM 840 crashed whilst he was performing aerobatics at Lymington, Hampshire, England, probably failure of the tailplane. Flying Officer Pilot Eastman’s remains were cremated at St. John’s Crematorium, Woking, Surrey, England and the ashes were returned to Canada for burial.

Liberator aircraft# KG 850 lost during a shipping strike in the Mergut Archipelago, Burma. Seven of the crew, not Canadians, were also killed. Kotyk, and one of the crew, not Canadian, were also killed. In August, 1988 a cairn was erected near the crash site on Hisoy Island in honour of this aircrew.
