JOHN EDWARD F/L(P) C548. From Regina, Saskatchewan. Killed Jun 6/41 age 28. #11 Service Flying Training School, Yorkton, Saskatchewan. F/L MacDonald and Sgt T.S. Sharpies were engaged in an instructors night flying practice when their Harvard aircraft #3026 went in to a dive at 1,000 feet. They were both killed when the Harvard crashed three miles north-east of the aerodrome at Yorkton. Flight Lieutenant Pilot MacDonald is buried in the Regina Cemetery at Regina, Saskatchewan.

Killed in Action Jun 19/43 age 20. #77 Squadron (Esse Potius Quam Videri), Halifax aircraft #JB 863 took off and two minutes later crashed in a cornfield one quarter of a mile south of Heslington Village, near York, Yorkshire. Six of the crew, not Canadians, were also killed. Flight Sergeant Air Gunner MacDonald is buried in the Pocklington Burial Ground, Yorkshire England. Addendum: The squadron was based at Elvington when Halifax aircraft # J13 863-V crashed just after take off for operations over Le Creusot, France. R. W. R85926. The crew of Liberator aircraft BZ 885 took off on an anti-sub patrol when the aircraft dived into the ground, shortly after take-off, at Sigeriya, Ceylon. WO.s AE. Ferguson, G.M. Stockwell, E.C. Currie, W.C. Love, F/O. K.F. Perera, F/O. D.G. Davie (RAF), and FS. D. Kirk (RAF) were all killed in the crash. The aircraft caught fire and the depth charges exploded.
