DAVID ELLIS SGT(WAG) R86420. From Reston, Manitoba. Killed Aug 28/42 age 21. #14 Operational Training Unit (Keep With The Pack). Hampden aircraft crashed. Please see Petry J.J. for casualty list and flight detail. Ex F/O Bob Lumgair reported the following, "Dave and I were almost out of the gate heading for the local pub when the tannoy (P.A. system) erupted with orders to do some circuit and bumps. I was supposed to go with Dave but went with another pilot. We would have been at the pub and out of reach for flying but Dave forgot his comb and had to back for it. He did have very nice hair and was a handsome guy. The night was foggy and we also crashed with FS Phillips (RAF) being killed." Sergeant Wireless Operator Air Gunner Brownlee is buried in the St. Nicholas Churchyard Extension, Cottesmore, Rutland, England.

EDITH MARY LAW W309326 - postal clerk. From Bridgeview, Alberta. Died Oct 10/43 age 23. #5 Service Flying Training School, Brantford, Ontario. LAW. Brownlee was killed in a car accident near #5 SFTS. Leading AirWoman Brownlee is buried in the Municipal Cemetery, Spirit River, Alberta.

IRVIN GORDON THOMAS FS(AG) R180799. From Shawville, Quebec. Killed in Action Aug 13/44 ago 20. #76 Squadron (Resolute). Halifax aircraft #LL 578 missing during operations against Russelsheim, Germany. FS R.H. Etherton (RAAF) and Sgt W.E. Twigg (RAF) were also killed. Four others of the crew, not Canadians, missing believed killed. Flight Sergeant Air Gunner Brownlee is buried in the War Cemetery at Choloy, Meurthe-et-Moselle, France.

H.L. R125229. Lancaster aircraft # ED 535 failed to return from an attack against Wilhelmshaven, Germany. F/O. W.K. Komaiko, and five RAF members of the crew, Sgt.s R. Bailey, R. King, G. Mcloughlin, J. Turner, and F/L. J. Michie were also killed.

W.H. J6844. - Distinguished Flying Cross - No.407 Squadron (deceased) - Award effective 5 June 1944 as per London Gazette dated 20 July 1945 and AFRO 1453/45 dated 14 September 1945. Home in Amhurst, Nova Scotia; enlisted Moncton, 22 March 1940. Trained at No. 1 WS (graduated 3 March 1941) and No.6 BGS (graduated 18 August 1941). Killed in action 6/7 June 1944 (Wellington HQ149). No known grave; commemorated on Runneymede Memorial. Award presented to next-of-kin, 2 December 1946. The citation reads - "Flight Lieutenant Brown, now on his second tour of operational duty, has taken part in a large number of anti-shipping and anti-submarine patrols. During his second tour two submarines were attacked. An excellent gunnery leader, this officer has been of great value in training less experienced crews and has set them a fine example by his keenness for operational flying and his gunnery skill." Home in Edmonton; enlisted there 7 November 1940. Trained at No.1 ITS (graduated 14 March 1941 ), No.10 EFTS (graduated 16 May 1941), and No.2 SFTS (graduated 8 August 1941). Killed in action 13 August 1944; buried in France. Credited with a share of a FW.190 destroyed (22 June 1944) and two FW.190s destroyed (17 July 1944).
